Setter Sean Howard dished out 29 assists, to go along with 4 kills and 11 digs, and Matt Frederickson added 4 kills, a solo block, and 17 digs. Everyone got a chance to play in the state game including Troy Bravenboer, who is still recovering from a knee injury, and freshman Jeremy Palmieri, who notched his first varsity kill, assist, and dig in the second game." 		<OPPONENT NAME="Teaneck" DATE="5/20/2003" MAIN="Vernon won a thriller at home against Teaneck, defeating the Highwaymen in 3 games (16-14, 9-15, 16-14).  The win improved the Vikes to 11-11, and was a great tune-up for their state matchup.  JV would see their winning streak snapped in a 3-set match, making their record 15-7." SUB="With starter Troy Bravenboer out with an injury, reserves Steve Slater and Ian Price-Davis came up big for the Vikes all match.  Slater put up 12 digs, while Price-Davis spiked 6 kills and added 7 digs with an ace.  Austin Schwartz and Chris Pomante combined for 14 kills, 5 blocks, and 38 digs, and setter Sean Howard had 19 assists, 14 digs, a block, and a kill.  Matt Frederickson also controlled the net for Vernon, putting back 4 blocks, 19 digs, and spiking 3 kills." JV was able to defeat their opponent, upping their record to 15-6." 		<OPPONENT NAME="Passaic" DATE="5/15/2003" MAIN="Vernon's drive towards a state playoff berth was realized on Thursday, with another hard-fought win at Passaic.  The Vikes needed 3 sets to defeat the Indians, 15-9, 7-15, 15-7, to make their record an even .500.  JV completed the sweep with a 3-set win of its own, upping their mark to 14-6." SUB="Senior captain Austin Schwartz continued to pound away in the front row, spiking 16 kills to go along with 6 digs and a solo block.  Chris Pomante (1 assist, 1 ace, 2 blocks) and Troy Bravenboer combined for 13 kills and 22 digs, while setter Sean Howard tallied 31 assists, 3 blocks, 10 digs, and a kill.  Matt Frederickson served both winners in games 1 and 3, and added 2 kills, an assist, and 12 digs, while Jay Huhn held down the back row with 21 digs and 3 service aces." The Vikes got the win 15-6, 16-18, 15-8 at home to up their record to 9-10.  JV also needed 3 sets to send the Blue Bears packing, making their record 13-6." SUB="Senior captain Austin Schwartz had a career day for the Vikes, spiking 17 kills in addition to 4 blocks and 7 digs, and he got support from Chris Pomante, who also spiked 10 kills, stuffed 4 blocks, dished out an assist, and scooped up 35 digs.  Sophomore setter Sean Howard distributed 40 assists as well as 3 kills, 16 digs, an ace, and 2 blocks, while Dave Vitone came off the bench to pound 7 kills and pick up a dig.  Senior Jay Huhn also tied a school record in getting his rotation to score 16 points in the match, whlie he also had 2 kills, an assist, and 13 digs." The win gives the varsity squad an 8-10 ledger, and needing 2 consecutive victories to secure a state berth.  JV was able to dispatch the Indians in 3 sets, improving their record to 12-6." SUB="Sophomore setter Sean Howard put up some of his finest numbers to date, getting 25 assists, 5 blocks, 3 kills, 5 digs, and an ace, while juniors Matt Frederickson and Troy Bravenboer combined for 13 kills, an assist, 25 digs, and a block.
